RUN THE RISK

The Race Never Ends For One Of World's Top Ultra-Marathoners.
Ian MacNairn is one of Canada’s top ultra-athletes. But this documentary short is not about sports. What does it mean to push past the limits your body and mind place on you? This was the question HuffPost was looking to answer in Run the Risk.
When we first heard MacNairn’s story, it seemed almost unbelievable. Here is a guy who, after being hit by an SUV and learning to walk again, decides to challenge himself to complete a 125km (78 miles) ultramarathon. He had never run more than 10 km (6 miles). Beyond that, Ian manages his Type 1 diabetes, a significant risk factor during any high-intensity sport.
Ian is constantly racing against himself, dissatisfied with anything less than his personal best. He has a thirst for adventure and knowledge and spends as much time training as he does studying for his MD/Ph.D. at the University of Calgary. We were drawn to Ian’s outlook on life and knew there were so many universal messages to share from his story. He sees life’s challenges as learning opportunities and truly attempts to live every day as if it were his last. Run the Risk had a small but mighty production team of two, but together we created a piece we are extremely proud of. From the mountain ranges of Canmore to the city streets of Calgary, Run the Risk’s cinematography and gripping story is sure to captivate audiences. We hope viewers leave reflecting on how they too can persevere through any challenge and understand that the journey is far more important than the destination.
